Pakistani doctor Muhammad Masood, employed in the U.S. on an H1-B visa, has received an 18-year prison sentence for attempting to aid ISIS and planning “lone wolf” attacks in the country. Convicted after pleading guilty in August 2022, Masood expressed support for ISIS through encrypted messages and sought to travel abroad to join the group. He purchased a ticket to Syria via Jordan but faced pandemic-related travel restrictions. Masood then intended to meet an accomplice in Los Angeles for assistance. Arrested at Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport, he now faces 18 years in prison followed by five years of supervised release.
