Olympian gymnast Dipa Karmakar has requested “relaxation” from the Sports Authority of India (SAI) to participate in the Hangzhou Asian Games. Dipa, who faced injuries, a doping violation, and lack of exposure due to unavoidable reasons in recent years, returned to competitive gymnastics by topping the selection trials. She sought consideration based on her track record and her ability to overcome challenges, given the criteria for non-measurable individual sports. The Gymnastics Federation of India also questioned the inconsistency in applying the selection criteria, leading to the omission of established athletes like Dipa Karmakar from the eligible list for the Asian Games.
