A report by the Council on Energy, Environment, and Water (CEEW) states that the domestic steel and cement industry in India will require an additional investment of Rs 47 lakh crore (approximately USD 627 billion) to achieve net-zero carbon emissions. The report highlights the need for Rs 1 lakh crore each year in additional operational expenditure (OPEX) for these industries to transition to a net-zero model. It suggests that adopting efficient technologies such as waste-heat recovery and energy-efficient drives and controls can lead to an 8.25% reduction in steel emissions and a 32% reduction in cement emissions without any price increase.
