Approximately 400 Australian aerospace support jobs are on the line as the government accelerates the retirement of its MRH90 Taipan military helicopters, according to NH Industries (NHI) President Axel Aloccio. The decision, unrelated to safety concerns from a fatal crash in July, has prompted Australia to ground the Taipan fleet until investigations conclude, extending the withdrawal date to December 2024. Defense Minister Richard Marles emphasized that the move doesn’t prejudge the investigation’s outcome. Aloccio, while assuring the NH90’s safety, revealed the immediate impact on support networks, leading to the redundancy of 400 workers. This development follows setbacks in the European NH90 program with cancellations from Norway and Sweden.
