Indonesia’s resort island of Bali and other regions experienced a powerful earthquake followed by two aftershocks early Tuesday. The initial quake had a preliminary magnitude of 7.1 and was centered in the Bali Sea, causing panic but no immediate reports of damage or casualties. While the Indonesian Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysical Agency warned of aftershock dangers, it ruled out a tsunami threat. Variations in magnitude measurement were observed, with aftershocks of 5.4 and 5.6. Indonesia, located in the geologically active “Ring of Fire,” frequently faces seismic and volcanic events.
