Tropical Storm Koinu has prompted the cancellation of numerous flights in Hong Kong as it nears the city after causing one fatality and injuring over 300 people in Taiwan. Expected to pass about 70 kilometers (43 miles) from Hong Kong, Koinu is set to bring heavy showers, leading to the closure of shops, schools, and reduced public transport services with the raising of the No.8 storm signal. The storm, which had earlier battered Taiwan, weakened into a tropical storm en route to southern China. The recent weather challenges come just a month after Typhoon Saola hit southern China and Hong Kong.
