Hyundai Motor India breaks industry norms by introducing six airbags as standard across all its models, including the base trim—a move departing from the common practice of offering this safety feature only in top-end variants. The announcement follows Hyundai’s achievement of a 5-star safety rating in Adult & Child Occupant Protection by Global NCAP. The company plans to voluntarily submit three models for testing under the new Bharat New Car Assessment Programme (BNCAP), demonstrating its commitment to elevating vehicular safety standards in India. Unsoo Kim, Hyundai Motor India’s MD & CEO, highlighted the brand’s dedication to providing not just smart but safer mobility solutions, despite recent government indications of non-mandatory six-airbag requirements in passenger vehicles from October 1, 2023.
