India is relaxing its planned restrictions on laptop, tablet, and other IT hardware imports, providing companies like Apple Inc., HP Inc., and Dell Technologies Inc. with more time to adjust to potential curbs. Instead of a compulsory licensing requirement, the country will introduce an import management system, set to commence on November 1. Unlike the previous licensing system, the new rules won’t limit inbound shipments for about six to nine months. Eventually, import quotas may be introduced, linked to a company’s local production and import/export figures. This move is part of India’s efforts to boost domestic production and attract tech manufacturers to the country.
