Niti Aayog member Ramesh Chand believes that India’s agro-chemical industry has the potential for growth beyond its current rate of nine percent, despite competition from China. He noted that the industry achieved impressive growth during the COVID-19 pandemic, even surpassing China’s exports in some data sources. Chand urged the Agro Chem Federation of India (ACFI) to create a document addressing ease of doing business in agrochemicals. He also emphasized the need for the industry to focus on biopesticides, as many Western countries are shifting in that direction. Chand stressed the importance of responsible business practices, innovation to minimize pollution, and compliance with environmental, social, and governance (ESG) standards to boost exports.
