The Indian government’s net direct tax collections have risen by 17.33% to reach Rs 5.84 lakh crore in the current fiscal year, equivalent to 32% of the full-year budget estimates. The Income Tax department stated that direct tax collections, encompassing personal income tax and corporate tax, have shown steady growth up to August 10, 2023. On a gross basis, direct tax collection increased by 15.73% to Rs 6.53 lakh crore. The government’s net collection represents 32.03% of the total budget estimates of direct taxes for the current fiscal year, which is set at Rs 18.23 lakh crore.
