Poland’s agriculture minister, Robert Telus, expressed openness to Ukraine’s proposal for a grain import licensing system during talks in the coming weeks. Ukraine suggests issuing licenses for wheat, corn, rapeseed, and sunflowers tailored to Poland’s needs, aiming to address the blockade of traditional Black Sea routes by Russia’s invasion. Logistical challenges have resulted in grain accumulation in central Europe, leading to import embargoes by several nations, including Poland, Hungary, and Slovakia. Despite a diplomatic spat and a WTO complaint by Kyiv, Telus stands firm on the embargo, emphasizing the need for Ukraine to withdraw the complaint. Additionally, Poland will explore a Ukrainian proposal to shift import checks to German ports, rather than at the Polish-Ukrainian border, as discussions continue amidst upcoming parliamentary elections.
