Amid a surge in power demand due to deficient monsoon, Coal Minister Pralhad Joshi reassured that India possesses an ample coal stock. Joshi stated that approximately 80 million tonnes of coal are available within thermal power plants and Coal India Limited. He affirmed this during a meeting with senior officials of the coal ministry, where discussions about enhancing coal transportation via the rail-sea-rail route also took place. While the highest power demand was recorded on August 17 at 234 GW, the demand has been propelled by hot weather and irrigation needs due to uneven rainfall distribution. Despite a slight decline in coal stocks at power plants, the country remains well-stocked with coal.
