United Auto Workers (UAW) announced that workers at Mack Trucks have rejected a proposed five-year contract, leading to a strike. Approximately 73% of the 4,000 workers in Pennsylvania, Florida, and Maryland voted against the deal. The proposed agreement included a 19% pay hike, a $3,500 ratification bonus, enhanced retirement benefits, additional vacation for some employees, and a reduction in the time required to reach top pay. UAW President Shawn Fain expressed support for the workers’ decision, while Mack President Stephen Roy stated disappointment and called the strike unnecessary. The UAW plans to resume bargaining with Mack.
