The UN’s refugee chief, Filippo Grandi, has expressed concern over diminishing humanitarian aid for Rohingya refugees in Bangladesh, emphasizing the potential exacerbation of one of the world’s major humanitarian crises. The Rohingya crisis has received only 42% of the required $875.9 million funding this year, and budget cuts have forced the UN World Food Programme to sharply reduce aid to Rohingya camps. Grandi highlighted that repatriation to Myanmar remains the primary plan, but many Rohingya are still reluctant to return due to safety concerns. He stressed the urgency of sustained contributions to prevent further deterioration.
