In the Lok Sabha on Monday, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced that the Serious Fraud Investigation Office (SFIO) is conducting a thorough investigation into the Sahara group companies. She acknowledged that only a small fraction of the 3.7 crore investors in these companies have come forward for refunds, with 19,650 claims made and 17,250 settled so far. The SFIO is examining why more investors have not claimed refunds and is expected to take further action based on its findings. Sitharaman emphasized that the government’s actions are in line with Supreme Court directives, as the entire matter is under the court’s supervision.
