Pakistan has downplayed its exclusion from the recent expansion of the BRICS group, stating that it has not yet formally requested to join the bloc. The leaders of the BRICS nations recently admitted Argentina, Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates as new members. Pakistan’s Foreign Office spokesperson mentioned that the country will examine the latest developments and determine its future engagement with BRICS. Despite not being included in the recent expansion, Pakistan emphasized its support for multilateralism and its role in global peace and development. The expansion took BRICS from five to eleven members, making it more representative of the Global South.
