An analysis conducted by the Association of Democratic Reforms (ADR) reveals that 44% of the sitting Lok Sabha Members of Parliament (MPs), out of 514 analysed, face criminal charges as per self-sworn affidavits. Moreover, 5% of these MPs are billionaires, possessing assets exceeding ₹100 crore. The analysis highlights concerns over the prevalence of criminality among elected representatives, particularly in states like Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Bihar, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and Himachal Pradesh, where more than 50% of MPs face criminal charges. Out of 514 MPs analyzed, 44% face criminal charges according to self-sworn affidavits. Additionally, 5% of these MPs are billionaires with assets exceeding ₹100 crore.
