A survey by LocalCircles exposes widespread frustration among Indian consumers regarding airline practices related to seat selection. Dark patterns are commonly used by airlines and travel portals, coercing customers into paying extra fees for seat selection. Despite a marginal improvement, a significant portion (44%) still report being charged extra for every seat on the plane. Moreover, 65% of respondents admitted to paying extra for seat selection in the past year, with 28% always paying extra for preferred seats. Indigo faced the most criticism, with 66% finding it impossible to get seats together without a fee. Consumers urge airlines to rationalize paid seats and disclose extra charges transparently during booking, while calling on authorities to curb unfair trade practices.
