Pakistan’s government has brushed off a warning from the United States regarding election irregularities. The US diplomat for South Asia, Donald Lu, expressed concerns about the February 8 election, urging Pakistan to investigate. Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Mumtaz Zahra Baloch, stated that the warning reflects a misunderstanding of Pakistan’s political situation. She emphasized the need for political dialogue to address concerns and ensure continued regional cooperation. Lu highlighted the importance of upholding democratic processes, warning that failure to do so could strain US-Pakistan relations. Despite longstanding partnership, the US is not considering significant new military sales to Pakistan.
