The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has selected Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Saini as their candidate for the upcoming by-election in the Karnal Assembly segment. The vacancy arose when outgoing Chief Minister Manohar Lal resigned earlier this month. According to constitutional regulations, a minister cannot hold office for more than six months without being a member of the House. Saini, currently representing Kurukshetra in the Lok Sabha, will now contest for the Karnal seat. The by-election is scheduled to coincide with the Lok Sabha elections in the state on May 25.
