The Kerala State Electricity Board Limited (KSEBL) launched a pilot project in its Palarivattom section to remove unauthorized and unused cables from electric posts, but progress has been slow due to the extensive and haphazardly drawn cables. Initially expected to take only days, the 2km stretch between Palarivattom Junction and Thammanam Junction has become a daunting task, with each post tangled in a maze of cables. The project’s sluggish pace has strained the section office’s operations, disrupting routine tasks and pre-monsoon works. Challenges include disposal of cables with little scrap value, feasibility issues with contractors, and difficulties in identifying live cables. The initiative aims to address safety concerns arising from low-hanging cables and ensure efficient electricity servicing.
