Five gaming startups in India have been adversely affected by the decision of the GST Council to impose a 28% Goods and Services Tax (GST) on online gaming revenue. As a result, these companies have had to either lay off employees or suspend operations. Fantok, a real money gaming app, has become the latest startup to halt its operations due to the evolving regulatory landscape and complex legal challenges posed by the new measures. Similarly, Quizy, Hike’s Rush Gaming Universe (RGU), and Spartan Poker have faced operational challenges, including workforce reduction and layoffs, due to the regulatory changes and the imposition of the 28% GST rate on entry fees for gaming platforms.
