The Government-e-Marketplace (GeM) platform has witnessed a significant surge in procurement activity, doubling its gross merchandise value (GMV) to over Rs 4 lakh crore in the financial year 2023-24, compared to the previous fiscal year. This milestone reflects the platform’s success in facilitating transparent procurement of goods and services for government departments and ministries from a diverse range of sellers, including small-scale enterprises. The substantial growth in the procurement of services, accounting for nearly 50% of the GMV, highlights GeM’s role in empowering domestic entrepreneurs and breaking down established service provider cartels. Major product categories contributing to this surge include automobiles, computers, and office furniture.
