Kenya’s tourism revenue soared by 31.5% in 2023, surpassing pre-pandemic figures, with $2.7 billion generated, reports the Tourism Ministry. Although visitor numbers increased to 1.95 million, per capita spending in dollars declined due to the devaluation of the Kenyan shilling. Prior to COVID-19, tourism contributed about 10% to GDP, bringing in $2.24 billion in 2019. The top arrivals in 2023 were Americans, Ugandans, Tanzanians, and Britons. With hopes to host 2.4 million tourists this year, Kenya introduced simplified “visa-free” entry to attract more visitors, signaling a positive outlook for the tourism industry.
