The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) has collaborated with Kasturba Gandhi Medical College in Karnataka to utilize drones for the swift transportation of tissue samples from rural hospitals to tertiary care centers. This initiative aims to expedite critical medical decisions during surgeries, particularly for cancer cases. In a recent demonstration, a drone transported a tissue sample covering a distance of 37 kilometers in just 16 minutes, significantly reducing the usual travel time by road. The utilization of drones is expected to enhance patient outcomes, convenience, and compliance while relieving the burden on tertiary care hospitals.
