Russian businessmen Mikhail Fridman and Petr Aven won a court case against the EU’s decision to sanction them for their alleged involvement in Russia’s conflict with Ukraine. The EU General Court cited lack of evidence for their removal from the sanctions list. Fridman, co-founder of Alfa Group, and Aven, former head of Alfa Bank, faced sanctions as part of EU measures against Russia. The court found insufficient evidence linking them to supporting Russian decision-makers or war efforts against Ukraine. This ruling contrasts with US Treasury sanctions imposed on them last year. The decision can be appealed to the European Court of Justice.
