In the Western Ghats, researchers unearthed a unique plant resembling the garden balsam, identified as Impatiens neo-uncinata. Initially mistaken for a familiar species, a detailed study led to its recognition as a new species. Named by S. Arya and V.S. Anil Kumar, the plant thrives in a single, remote location at high elevations, making it vulnerable to endangerment. Distinguished by its striking milky-white flowers with red stripes, the herb grows near streams and wetlands. Morphologically similar to Impatiens uncinata, it stands out in size and petal characteristics.
