In response to a takedown directive from India’s Election Commission, social media platform X (formerly Twitter) has limited access to specific political posts by elected officials, parties, and candidates in India ahead of the upcoming elections. The Election Commission found these posts to violate the model code of conduct. Despite disagreeing with the orders, X has complied with the directive, withholding the posts for the duration of the election period. The move comes as India prepares for the world’s largest electoral exercise, commencing on April 19.
