The Kerala State Electricity Regulatory Commission (KSERC) has relaxed regulations to facilitate the implementation of the PM-KUSUM scheme, focusing on solarizing agriculture pumps. Under Component-C of PM-KUSUM, individual farmers with grid-connected pumps will benefit from these relaxed provisions. Solar panels can now be installed on residential rooftops of registered agricultural consumers, with waived transmission and wheeling charges. The move addresses challenges in Kerala, where farm holdings are small, and ideal locations for solar panels are often rooftops. This decision aims to promote solarization, benefiting both the Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) and consumers, with the goal of solarizing at least one lakh pumps.
