Russian artist Andrei Molodkin plans to fill a sculpture with blood donated by victims of abuse in the Catholic Church and project it onto the gates of the Vatican. The protest is inspired by Sinead O’Connor’s 1992 appearance on Saturday Night Live, during which she ripped a picture of Pope John Paul II. Molodkin aims to give abuse victims a voice through his art and has already received blood donations, including from a priest who was abused. He expects the protest to shock and surprise people by using a sacred symbol with the blood of abuse survivors.
