The Supreme Court intervened to authorize the termination of pregnancy for a 14-year-old rape survivor from Maharashtra, nearly in her 30th week. Acting upon a medical team’s recommendation, the court deemed continuation of the pregnancy detrimental to the minor’s physical and emotional well-being. Despite acknowledging risks associated with the termination, it ruled that the threat to her life was not greater than full-term delivery. Utilizing its powers under Article 142 of the Constitution, the court directed immediate action, overturning a Bombay High Court ruling and emphasizing the urgency and welfare of the minor.
