Amid Western sanctions and tightened scrutiny on Russian trade, Russia’s state-owned reinsurer has supported three Russian insurance firms, enabling them to secure Indian accreditation for offering marine insurance to tankers. Sogaz Insurance, Alfastrakhovanie, and VSK Insurance, backed by the Russian National Reinsurance Company (RNRC), now join Ingosstrakh as approved insurers in India. This move facilitates Russia’s trade with India, offering financial stability and support for maritime transport, particularly crucial for oil cargoes. While RNRC’s role underscores Russian government backing, Indian refiners navigate stringent payment protocols amidst geopolitical tensions and sanctions.
