The Ministry of Finance announced a record high gross GST collection of Rs 2.10 trillion for April 2024, marking a 12.4% year-on-year increase. This surge is attributed to robust growth in domestic transactions (13.4%) and imports (8.3%). After refunds, net GST revenue stands at Rs 1.92 trillion, reflecting a significant 17.1% growth. CGST reached Rs 43,846 crore, SGST at Rs 53,538 crore, and IGST at Rs 99,623 crore. Inter-governmental settlement saw Rs 94,153 crore for CGST and Rs 95,138 crore for SGST. Mizoram recorded the highest growth (52%) in revenue, while Karnataka led in GST revenue collection at Rs 15,978 crore. Analysts anticipate continued strong collections, citing historical trends, but highlight potential impacts of the heatwave and monsoon on manufacturing, services, and rural economies.
