The Indian Coast Guard apprehended 14 Sri Lankan nationals on five fishing boats for illegal poaching in Indian waters. The patrol vessel ICGS Rani Durgavati detected the boats 15 miles from Point Calimere off Tamil Nadu’s coast. The boats, equipped with fishing gear, were found fishing well within Indian waters. The apprehended individuals and their boats were charged under the Territorial Waters, Continental Shelf, Exclusive Economic Zone and Other Maritime Zones Act, 1976. They will be handed over to the Tamil Nadu Police’s Coastal Security Group in Nagapattinam for further legal proceedings.
