Germany’s Nature And Biodiversity Conservation Union (NABU) is hosting its seventh annual “insect summer,” urging citizens to count insects in a 10-meter radius for an hour. Taking place from May 31 to June 9 and August 2-11, this citizen science project helps track trends and gather insights on insect populations. Laura Breitkreuz from NABU notes that species like the violet carpenter bee are moving north, indicating climate change. The initiative aims to raise awareness of the critical role insects play in ecosystems, amid their declining populations due to human activities.
