Senior Congress leader Jairam Ramesh criticized the BJP’s campaign strategy in West Bengal, predicting fewer seats for the party in the upcoming elections. Ramesh attributed this to the imposition of “north Indian symbols” on the “unique” state, accusing Prime Minister Modi and Home Minister Shah of lacking an understanding of Bengali culture. He also raised questions regarding PM Modi’s visit to the state, alleging the withholding of ration funds and favoritism towards certain individuals. Ramesh expressed confidence in the INDIA alliance forming the government, with Mamata Banerjee’s Trinamool Congress being a part of it, despite no formal seat-sharing agreement.
