Former Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has acknowledged that Pakistan breached the 1999 Lahore Declaration with India during the Kargil conflict. Speaking at the PML-N general council, Sharif admitted fault in the violation following the historic nuclear tests by Pakistan in 1998 and the subsequent peace agreement signed by then Indian PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee. The Lahore Declaration aimed to enhance peace and stability, resolve the Kashmir issue, combat terrorism, and promote nuclear disarmament. However, the Kargil War, led by General Pervez Musharraf, shattered these hopes, resulting in military casualties and increased mistrust between the two nations.
