Ukraine announced its first-ever attack on Russia’s Su-57 stealth fighter jet, striking it at an airfield in southern Russia. The Su-57, introduced in 2020, aimed to replace aging Soviet-era aircraft. Ukraine’s military intelligence, GUR, stated that the strike occurred at the Akhtubinsk airfield, marking the first defeat of a Su-57 in history. Although Ukraine did not directly claim responsibility, satellite images of fire damage around the jet were published. A Ukrainian intelligence source indicated the GUR’s involvement, suggesting the use of Ukrainian combat drones. Russia’s Defence Ministry reported shooting down three drones over the Astrakhan region on the same day.
