The World Health Organization (WHO) disclosed a case of human infection with bird flu (H9N2 virus) in a four-year-old child in West Bengal, India. The child was hospitalized for severe respiratory issues, fever, and abdominal cramps, with exposure to poultry at home. No respiratory illness was reported among family or contacts. While the virus typically causes mild illness, sporadic human cases could occur due to its prevalence in poultry. This marks the second H9N2 infection in India, with the first reported in 2019. Immediate response from India’s health ministry was awaited.
