The Goods and Services Tax (GST) Council is gearing up for significant changes ahead of the full Budget, including a reshuffle of the group of ministers tasked with rate rationalisation. Led by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, the council aims to streamline GST rates following the interim report in June 2022. Key priorities include assessing states’ implementation of GST on online gaming and reviewing the current four-slab structure (5%, 12%, 18%, and 28%). Discussions suggest a potential shift to a three-slab system to achieve revenue neutrality, with the group of ministers expected to finalize recommendations within three to four months.
