Assam’s government has introduced the Mukhya Mantri Nijut Moina scheme to increase girls’ enrollment in higher education and prevent child marriages. Announced by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, the scheme provides a monthly stipend to girls in Class 11, first-year degree courses, and first-year post-graduation in government institutions. Exclusions apply to daughters of MLAs, private school students, and those eligible for a separate scooter scheme unless they opt for the stipend instead. Stipends are ₹1,000 for Class 12, ₹1,250 for first-year graduates, and ₹2,500 for first-year post-graduates, transferred monthly.
