The Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) issued a warning about fraudulent activities where imposters pose as Indian Customs officials to deceive people across India. Perpetrators use digital methods such as calls and SMS to coerce victims into paying fictitious fines or duties under threat of penalties. CBIC launched a comprehensive awareness campaign through newspapers, social media, and direct communication to educate the public. They advised caution, suggesting verification of callers’ identities and immediate reporting of suspicious activities to prevent financial losses due to false claims of seized parcels or illegal shipments.
