Recent heavy rains in Guangdong province, southern China, have led to historic flooding, resulting in nine deaths and six people reported missing. Meixian district in Meizhou city and Jiaoling county were severely affected, with homes collapsed and significant infrastructure damage, including a major road collapse. The Songyuan river experienced its largest flood on record. Economic losses are estimated at 3.65 billion yuan ($502 million) in Jiaoling county and 1.06 billion yuan ($146 million) in Meixian district. The National Meteorological Center has issued warnings for continued extreme weather across several provinces.
