Recent labor tragedies highlight the persistent exploitation and brutal conditions faced by Indian migrant workers. On June 12, a fire in Kuwait killed 45 Indians living in overcrowded conditions. Concurrently, two Indians forced to fight for the Russian Army died in Ukraine, while another worker died from neglect in Italy. Despite government awareness, actions remain insufficient. India has criticized Russia’s recruitment of Indian laborers but failed to shut down known recruiting offices. West Asian countries’ labor policies further exacerbate exploitation.
