Siemens has initiated a €4.5 billion urban development project in Berlin’s historic Siemensstadt. Named Siemensstadt Square, this “district of the future” will feature new housing for 7,000 people and create 20,000 jobs. The 76-hectare site, slated for completion by 2035, will integrate homes, factories, research centers, offices, shops, and recreational facilities. Siemens CEO Roland Busch emphasized the project’s aim to blend industrial activity with urban living. Although Siemens will not build employee housing, developers will construct 2,500 homes.
