Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) will shut down a major crude oil unit at its Kochi refinery for maintenance starting mid-September. The one-month shutdown affects a 6 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) unit and secondary units, ensuring operational efficiency. In 2018, BPCL conducted similar maintenance at Kochi. Additionally, BPCL plans to expand its Bina refinery from 7.8 MTPA to 11 MTPA by mid-2027, supported by a Rs 31,000 crore loan. This project includes an ethane cracker unit and a 1.2 MTPA petrochemical plant, aiming to boost refining capacity and petrochemical production.
