Foxconn, the world’s largest electronics contract manufacturer and a major Apple supplier, plans to double its workforce and investment in India within the next 12 months. The move is part of Foxconn’s strategy to reduce its dependence on China. V Lee, Foxconn’s representative in India, made the announcement in honor of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 73rd birthday, without disclosing specific details. Foxconn currently employs 40,000 people at its iPhone manufacturing facility in Tamil Nadu and has committed $600 million for two projects in Karnataka. Chairman Liu Young-way highlighted India’s substantial potential, suggesting that the company’s investments in the country are just the beginning.
