The Ministry of Coal revealed that the sustainable utilization of mine water resources by public sector companies (PSUs) under the coal ministry has positively impacted 17.7 lakh people in 981 villages across nine states. During the fiscal year 2022-23, Central Public Sector Enterprises (CPSEs) discharged around 8,130 Lakh m3 of mine water, with 46% allocated for community uses, 49% for internal domestic and industrial needs, and 6% reserved for groundwater recharge initiatives. The initiative involves treating mine water for various purposes, including drinking, irrigation, and industrial applications. Notable projects, such as a reverse osmosis filter plant in West Bengal and water channeling in Madhya Pradesh, showcase the multifaceted benefits of this sustainable approach.
