The Indian government plans to take legal action against six auto companies for fraudulently retaining incentives granted under the FAME II scheme, which supports electric vehicles. The companies, including Hero Electric and Okinawa Autotech, were found to have wrongly claimed imported components as locally sourced. Only Revolt Motors has returned the incentives so far. The government intends to blacklist these firms from future incentives. A total of ₹469 crore was wrongly availed by these companies. The FAME II scheme aimed to boost electric vehicle demand by supporting various categories, including electric buses and two-wheelers. The government is also considering the third phase of the FAME India scheme and plans to seek public input.
