The United Auto Workers (UAW) union has launched a strike at General Motors’ highly profitable SUV factory in Arlington, Texas, involving 5,000 workers. This follows the UAW’s strike at a Stellantis pickup truck plant in Michigan. The combined strikes now involve 46,000 UAW members and mark the sixth week of labor actions. The Arlington plant produces lucrative truck-based SUVs like the Chevrolet Tahoe and Cadillac Escalade. UAW President Shawn Fain has threatened more strikes to push for increased pay offers from GM, Ford, and Stellantis, but GM CEO Mary Barra asserts that the company has made a record offer already.
